Technology Readiness Level 4

Component validated in a controlled environment

Advertising TRL4 is a research prototype by Prof. A. Selvarasu (Annamalai University) with BiCon BizAI Integ Consulting. At TRL 4, the integrated system is demonstrated working end-to-end in a controlled laboratory-equivalent setting — here, the browser environment with scripted functional verification — ahead of a supervised classroom pilot at TRL 5.

Proof of concept

The concept under test: a structured 40-module advertising management curriculum, an applied campaign blueprint generator and an instant assessment can be combined into a single readiness score that tells a learner exactly what to do next — without login, server infrastructure or instructor overhead. The prototype demonstrates that the loop closes: study → apply → test → measured readiness → recommended next action.

Integrated components

Curriculum engine

40 modules structured in five units of eight, each with objective, concept summary and application task.

Progress tracker

Per-module completion state, unit roll-ups and a weighted readiness index (50/25/25).

Campaign blueprint generator

Deterministic rule engine converting brief inputs into run-rate, phased schedule, channel allocation, KPI and evaluation design.

Assessment module

10-item knowledge check with instant scoring, rationale feedback and best-score retention.

Local persistence layer

Browser localStorage state with cross-tab synchronisation; no login, server or database dependency in this version.

Export layer

Print-optimised campaign blueprint output for submission, review or PDF export.

Controlled-environment verification

  • All 40 modules render with complete objective, summary and task content, and navigate forward and backward without dead ends.
  • Completion toggles persist across page reload, route change and browser restart on the same device.
  • Readiness index recomputes correctly at 0%, partial and 100% completion boundaries.
  • Blueprint generator produces internally consistent output across budget range ₹10,000–₹10,000,000 and 7–180 day durations.
  • Channel allocation percentages normalise to the selected channel set for every combination, including single-channel selection.
  • Knowledge check scores, explanations and best-score retention verified across full-correct, partial and full-incorrect runs.
  • Layout verified at 320px, 768px, 1024px and 1440px widths; interactive targets meet minimum size and contrast expectations.

Known limitations at TRL 4

  • Progress is device- and browser-local: it does not follow a learner across devices and is lost if site data is cleared.
  • No authentication, multi-user roles, cohort analytics or faculty grading view in this version.
  • The blueprint generator uses transparent heuristics, not live media cost data or market benchmarks.
  • Assessment is a 10-item screener, not a psychometrically validated instrument; no item-response calibration yet.
  • Content is text-based; video, case libraries and peer review are out of scope at TRL 4.
  • Effectiveness is verified functionally in a controlled environment, not yet demonstrated on learning outcomes.

TRL 5 pilot plan (20–30 MBA learners)

  1. Phase 1 · Weeks 1–2

    Cohort setup

Recruit 20–30 MBA learners with faculty supervision. Capture baseline diagnostic scores and consent for research use.

  2. Phase 2 · Weeks 3–6

    Guided study run

Learners complete Units I–III with weekly checkpoints. Faculty observe drop-off points and time-on-module.

  3. Phase 3 · Weeks 7–9

    Applied campaign sprint

Each learner generates and defends a campaign blueprint for a real or assigned brand; rubric-based faculty scoring.

  4. Phase 4 · Weeks 10–11

    Post-assessment and comparison

Repeat knowledge check and compare against baseline, with a non-using control group from a parallel section.

  5. Phase 5 · Week 12

Evidence pack and TRL 5 decision

Report learning gain, usability scores (SUS), completion rates and required features for cloud accounts and cohort dashboards.

Advance-to-TRL-5 gate: at least 70% module completion across the cohort, a mean knowledge-check gain of 15 percentage points over baseline, blueprint rubric pass rate above 80%, and a System Usability Scale score of 70 or higher.
